Basic Info
Name:Alessandro XVIII
Bio

Basics
Character name: Alessandro XVIII
Fandom/series: Trinity Blood
Character age: 18
What point in their timeline?: Post-anime (we'll say his airship back to the Vatican was shot down in an assassination attempt or something)

Detailed
Abilities/powers: None.
Personality: Despite being one of the most powerful figures in his world, Alessandro is little more than a frightened child. He's not quite shy, but he is very timid and skittish and has been known to either break down in tears or run away (read; hide in the Vatican's gardens) when people shout at or around him. He's very much afraid of loud noises, and of his older brother who seems to use these fears to keep Alessandro as merely a figurehead leader.

At the point in canon he's been taken from, however, Alessandro is showing signs of being a stronger person than even he thought himself capable of. He's been given a small amount of self-confidence and a lot of purpose.

He certainly has the potential to be a gentle, compassionate leader as he grows into himself more, but for now he'd still only a gentle, compassionate, easily frightened child.
Haibane Feather: White.

History
Alessandro is the 399th pope, and has had the title since he was 12 or 13. He's the youngest, and only legitimate, son of the former pope, and never actually wanted to take his place. His older siblings, however, conspired to get him the title rather than their uncle, not caring what Alessandro himself wanted. Because of this Alessandro spends the greater part of his time as a puppet ruler only, looking pretty on his throne while his siblings run things and make choices for him (usually while arguing with each other).

Alessandro has very few appearances of note in the earlier episodes of the anime, and the main story arc that influences his character is the final one. While attending the state funeral of the late queen of Albion, one of the few countries not under influence of the Vatican, with Sister Esther Blanchett, Alessandro finds himself caught up in a rebellion attempt.

Beneath Albion's main city, Londinium is the Methuselah (vampire) city known by its residents as the Ghetto. The vampires who live here are isolated from the human population above, and work on understanding and rebuilding Lost Technology. However, not all the vampires who live in the Ghetto are happy with the way things are, and they stage an act of terrorism in an attempt to kidnap Alessandro to use him as a hostage until they get what they want.

Esther manages to get Alessandro away from the rebels at first, and the two of them manage to escape into the corridors of the Ghetto, though they are separated in the smoke and confusion. Alessandro wanders around alone for a bit, before he comes across a small child. The appearance of this child, combined with his fear at being alone and lost cause him to faint, and he later wakes to find himself in a room that looks a lot like a hospital.

The child who found him was a vampire, as are the people who she brought him to, and, although Alessandro is afraid of them at first, they prove to him that vampires are just people too. It's with them that he gets his first bit of real self-confidence, the child who found him, a little girl called Angelica, asks him to bless her sick rabbit, because he's the "most important person in the world", and god will listen to him.

When Alessandro argues that he's not important at all because other people yell at him and tease him, Angelica tells him he's been chosen by god, and that if people are being mean to him she'll take care of them. After that he blesses her rabbit, and Angelica offers to show him her favourite place.

Unfortunately the rebels find them there, and, though Angelica tries to fight them to protect Alessandro, she's no match for a fully grown vampire. When the rebel leader, Vanessa, shouts at Angelica to get her to stop Alessandro agrees to go with her just to make Vanessa stop shouting. (As a side note, Vanessa does actually apologise to Angelica for yelling at her after that).

It's during the time he spends with Vanessa, Alessandro comes to realise just how little he actually knows about things, and that he wants to know more and actually help people. He even stops the Inquisition, some of the more fanatical members of the church, from killing Vanessa when they come to rescue him, proving that their respect for him overrides even their hatred for vampires. It's a very eye-opening trip for him, and he does seem to understand/empathise with the vampires in Albion innately.

Of course, there's a lot more that happens in the episodes, but the majority of it revolves around everyone else fighting against the series' main villains, and eventually defeating them (in a sense). Though the fighting has no bearing on Alessandro, the outcome does. It gives him the opportunity to arrange speak with his sister about what he can do to make things better for human and vampire alike.

It should also be noted that, although Alessandro is afraid of his older brother, Francesco, he seems to be very fond of his sister, Catherina, and she of him. It's Catherina who arranges Alessandro's rescue in Albion, while Francesco would have sacrificed him and used it as an excuse to take control of Albion.
